Last night was the Holiday Craft Wonderland Sale during the Graphic Wonderland Show at the Laney College Graphic Arts Department.
This showcase was to highlight student’s work they’ve done during 2019 using inDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. They’ve been doing this show for about four years and it has been a success every time.
The Holiday Craft Wonderland Sale was introduced this year and it featured several students selling their art for people to buy as Christmas presents and to help raise money for the Graphic Arts Department.
When the semester started, I originally planned to sell my cards during the show. However, a couple of other people wanted to sell stuff too. That’s when I decided to jump in and organize the entire holiday sale.
After making announcements to several classes, I thought for sure no one would be interested. However, I was surprised to get a lot of people signed up! In addition to that, I also created the inventory, designed the layout, created schedules, and organized all the meetings.
As the show got closer, I had a feeling that everyone would drop out at the last minute. While several people did due to time restraints and not enough merchandise to sell, I was able to get 11 people (including me) for the sale.
Besides my greeting cards, the items that were sold included t-shirts, posters, prints, and even CD’s. As an added bonus, there was also a live band that performed for us.
In the end, we made a grand total of $319 and half of it was donated to the Graphic Arts Department. Overall, this was definitely the best show I’ve organized and I was really glad that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did!
Special thanks to Professor Daniella for giving me the privilege to organize this event and to all the vendors that helped make this a memorable experience!
